$100,000 FIRE SWEEPS THROUGH MILAN FACTORY: An early morning fire in the plant of the Ideal Furnace Co. at Milan destroyed a block long section of the factory today, causing damage estimated upwards of $100,000. Four fire departments fought the blaze for several hours, and the fire was checked at a fire wall separating the burning foundry from other sections of the plant.

THREATENING SMOKESTACKS - June Haney, who lives in the subdivision behind ITT United Plastics Division in Brighton, is one of many residents who are complaining about the fumes coming from the factory's smokestacks. Headaches, nausea and vomiting are the most common symptoms reported since the smokestacks were installed.

OFFICE WORKERS ENTER STRUCK PLANT: Stenographers and other office help were allowed to pass through picket lines at Michigan Seamless Tube Co.'s plant in South Lyon this morning. Here a group is shown entering. The walkout began yesterday over bonuses on production work. Union and company officials disagreed as to whether the walkout was legal.

STRIKERS TURN BACK TRUCK: Striking workers at the Michigan Seamless Tube Co.'s plant in South Lyon are shown turning back a truck at the steel mill's entrance about 8 o'clock this morning. The truck left the scene a few minutes later. Strikers are shown at the right. There was no trouble as the strike got under way, but South Lyon police were kept alerted.
