Description

'The original church structure, designed by the prominent Detroit firm of Donaldson & Meier, was built in 1882 by the Unitarian Universalist Church. An exciting discovery was found behind a wall that was part of an addition from 1916 - an original Tiffany stained glass window, copyright 1900. The window, which was donated by Mrs. Lilly of Chicago in memory of a child, depicts an ascending angel with infant and has been relocated to the east exterior wall of the reception area of Hobbs+Black' (from the Hobbs+Black website).

Michigan Stained Glass Census:  Angel with Baby

'Brief Description of Subject: This window was uncovered when The Hobbs & Black Architectural firm purchased the building in the mid 1980s and removed some walls while remodeling. The window was originally installed when the building was the Unitarian church, to commemorate the loss of a child. The window was boarded over in the 1930s. The window is now on the east wall of the reception room and can be seen from the outside using the alley on the west side of the building.'
